Single Acting vs. Double Acting Ball Lock Pins: What's the difference?
Ball lock pins generally come in two types:single acting and double acting. Single acting ball lock pins are enabled by a button and handle whereas double acting pins are activated by a push or pull motion. It's also worth noting that double acting ball lock pins are positive locking until released by pulling or pushing the center spindle attached to the pin body handle. Once the handle is pulled the ball is released and this removes the pin in the same motion.
Are Ball Locking Pins Safe?
Used to join and fasten machine components, ball locking pins are incredibly safe and easy to use. Ball locking pins feature a positive locking mechanism where the spring mechanisms draw the balls inside the pin shaft. When the push button is released, the spring-loaded ball lock is reactivated, and the ball subsequently retracts. This method provides a stable, safe and secure locking function.For enhanced safety when securing components at a height, lanyards and retaining cables are available.
What is a 5-Fold Safety Factor?
The 5-fold safety factor in direction F2 would be 240kg x5 = 1.200 kg (1.2t) for example. In this situation the load will not fall down but the Lifting-pin is broken and will need to be replaced.
In the case of installation using the X max. distance the lifting pins can’t provide the 5-fold safety factor, however, it will still work with recommended loads.

We make ball lock pins with balls only. Unfortunately pins and sheet metal plates on the shaft are unavailable at this time.

Specially manufactured ball lock pins can be made from quantities starting at x10 pieces. Larger quantities are advised to ensure a more economic supply.
Can Wixroyd make Ball Lock Pins with a stainless steel handle instead of aluminium?

What does Double Shear Minimum mean?
Double shear is where the pin is exposed to 2 points at which shear can occur. Please be warned that double shear is not necessarily double that of single shear product, there is a percentage difference but this something that needs to be calculated precisely.
The minimum element which is sometimes referred to on some of our parts like our pull handles is the force that can be handled by each product; from the 1st one made to the 1000th and so on. So for instance if the double shear min. resistance is 200lbs for a BLP, then every ball lock pin made will be able to handle 200lbs- some may be able to handle 220lbs others 202lbs- but all of them will be able to take on 200lbs minimum (in this example).
