They work based on a retractable, spring-loaded pin, which when activated - either manually or automatically - allows for precise repeatable repositioning. Types of Index Plunger
Index plungers are available as either locking, or non-locking. Standard plungers tend to be non-locking, allowing for rapid adjustments to equipment such as gym and medical aids. In this case, the pin returns to its extended position automatically via internal spring pressure. Locking index plungers can be retracted and rotated to lock them in position until the operator is ready to re-insert the pin. Whilst non-locking allows for rapid repositioning and securing, locking plungers are versatile, and allow free movement of the opposing part.
Wixroyd's indexing plungers are available in both steel, and stainless steel, allowing you to choose the most effective material for your application. Whilst steel provides superior strength and durability, stainless offers additional corrosion resistance.

Index Plunger Options
Thread Mounted
A locking type with a threaded body to allow the operator to pull back the grip, rotate it 90º and lock the pin in a retracted position. Thread mounted index plungers are commonly integrated into manufacturing to securely lock components to assist with improving safety, accuracy and repeatability.
Index plungers are ideal for quick and simple manual indexing purposes.
Pull grip index plungers with coarse thread. Available in locking and non-locking type.
Wixroyd compact non-locking index plunger includes a thread recess for full engagement of thread length.
No-grip index plunger. Non-locking type - pin simply springs back when grip released.
The locking variation of the compact index plunger comes in steel and stainless steel. Engagement of the locking element requires a simple pull back and 90° twist of the plastic grip.
This range hosts an index plunger without a fitted grip, which allows the user to mount a customised handle to suit the application requirements.
Fully stainless steel non-locking index plunger. This makes it suitable for the demands of food processing, pharmaceutical or water treatment applications.

Pull grip index plunger with rapid locking head. Pull knob up, red button flush = pin locked. Press red button, red button out = pin unlocked. Temperature range from -30°C to +80°C.
Lever and Ring Pull
Our lever indexing plungers are available as both locking and non-locking components, and allow the operator to see the position of the pin from the outside.
Ring pull plungers are non-locking, and a good option for mass production where high precision is not a strict requirement. Lever and ring pull plungers are typically used for height adjustment, conveyors, or packaging machine settings.
Precision index plungers with cylindrical pin, made from case hardened steel with thermoplastic grip. Available in locking or non-locking types.

Lever grip index plungers with 90° or 120° actuation. Three different types available: without rest position, with rest position and with a safety rest position.

Thin-Wall
Compact in size and designed for installation on thinner materials such as sheet metal, Wixroyd’s thin-wall index plungers are available with both locking and non-locking mechanisms, and are ideal for display racks and shop fittings, furniture and light duty machinery.
An extra fine-threaded mini index plunger, for installing on the thinnest of sheet metals.
Like the other mini index plungers, this fine threaded one, has locking and non-locking models available. Galvanized steel and stainless steel pins.
Coarse threaded mini index plungers, available in stainless steel or free cutting galvanised steel. Particularly suited for use on sheet metal assemblies; e.g Shopfitting displays.

Flange Mounted
Wixroyd offers a variety of flange-mounted indexing plungers designed to suit your application. Designed for mounting on flat surfaces, they feature extended pins and are commonly used for adjustable robotic mounts and assembly lines, or for securing drawers or panels on industrial machinery.
